2010 MLB All-Star Game Mickey Mouse Scavenger Hunt Completed

It took about 3 days and 30+ hours, but I did it!  I found all the 2010 MLB All-Star Mickey Mouse statues in Southern California.  There are 36 total.  The list of statues that you find on-line and Hertz Never Lost is NOT enough to get you to all the correct locations.  You're going to need Google Maps also.  For those of you that don't know (i.e. I didn't), the Disneyland Esplanade is a fancy way of saying the entrance to the Disneyland parks.  You don't need a ticket to get in, but you will need to get your bag checked if you want to walk through the entrance to get to the other entrance side (i.e. unless you want to go around, but I have no idea how/why you'd do that).  For that location you can park in the 15 minute parking area, so you don't have to pay.

I made 35 friends, since I had to ask people to take the pics of me (i.e. except at the Newport Sports Museum, where there was no one to be found on a Sunday afternoon).

I walked deep into the Orange County Park/Zoo area at night to get to the Chicago Cubs Mickey, since the office was closed.  I don't recommend doing that though, because the walk is a little scary when it's dark.

I found a friendly mall cop in Orange, who let me into the mall after hours to take a picture.

I nearly killed myself in Anaheim, when the Hertz Never Lost told me to make a left, and I did - but it was a green light and not a green arrow.  The Anaheim Police Officer, saw that I was sorry, and he let me go after he ran my license.

For the LA locations if you're smart, just pull into the valet of the hotels and tell them what you're there to do, and they probably won't make you pay for parking (i.e. I didn't have to).

If you have any specific questions about where the Mickeys are, comment me and I'll help you out.

Doing this hunt was a fun experience and I was able to see a lot of Southern California.

Day 1:
Rancho Cucamonga
Newport Beach
Laguna Beach
Irvine
Tustin
Santa Ana
Costa Mesa
Huntington Beach <-- I couldn't find this on my Hertz map, so I lost time going back to it.
Long Beach
Garden Grove
Orange

Day 2:
Hollywood
Los Angeles
Santa Monica

****  While in Hollywood, I got caught up in a Top Chef Tour Live taping and had the chance to see Eli Kirshtein and Hosea Rosenberg in action.  It's no secret I like tall, bald guys ~ but microwave sponge cake...  Who knew?!?!

Also, in Hollywood, I've decided that I'm ready for my star on the Walk of Fame, and evidently so is Hollywood!  I was driving back from New Jersey a couple of weekends ago and my Iphone started playing Phil Collins.  I heard "Groovy Kind of Love" and "Sussudio", and almost hurled my phone out of the window.  Just saying...

I used to be a fan, I guess...

This should read, "The Wirk"

Day 3:
Anaheim

HAVE FUN!!!

  3. Where is the Minnesota Twins Mickey?

  4. The NY Yankees Mickey is at the ESPN Zone at LA Live (across the street from the Staples Center) and the Dodgers one is at The Music Center in LA. If you tell the parking attendant at The Music Center you're there to take a pic with Mickey he might let you park in the box office parking spot for free.

TallDrink - Minnesota Twins Mickey is at the Anaheim Garden Walk. Park in the garage and you can get in an out without paying if you're fast.

    Happy hunting!

  5. I had no clue this was going on until I stumbled on two on the same weekend. Now I've gotta find 'em all strictly for the sake of saying I wanted to waste gas and accomplish a minor task this summer.

  6. the same thoughts were running through my head when i did it. get in the car, drive to the next one, park get out, ask stranger to take a picture, get into car and onto the next one! after a while, it got tiring ~ but it was fun to see the different areas of southern california and i do love mickey :)

  10. that's so lame. terrible. i never understood why people do things like that.

  11. How do you get to the Mickey at Angels Stadium? Do we have to go to a game to get a picture?

    ReplyDelete
  12. no ticket to the baseball game required. you can pull into the parking lot at the grove for free (i.e. there's another mickey mouse there, too) and walk towards the gates/ticket window of the angels stadium. you may be able to park closer to the stadium, but you might have to pay to park if you do that. you definitely don't need a ticket to the game to see the angels' mickey mouse. hope that helps!

  13. Did you win the tickets to the All Star Game?

  14. unfortunately, no. there was a lady who commented my blog earlier on another post when i mentioned the contest and she included her link to her pictures. not sure if she won, but she definitely beat me to the punch! plus, i don't live in california (i.e. so i'm definitely not a resident in one of the eligible counties). i just did it because i love sports and disney (i.e. especially mickey mouse)!

  15. To those of you following this blog...a second mouse has disappeared due to vandalism. The one at El Capitan has been removed due to vandalism.

  17. Was it easy to park in Laguna Beach for the Rays?

    ReplyDelete
  18. the mickey at the el capitan location now too? wow - that one was right on the street near the disney shop and the jimmy kimmel studio (i.e. where a guard was present while i was there). that really stinks!

parking for the rays one wasn't too bad, i was able to find a meter that sunday (on that main drag so when you walk up the museum was to the left on the corner). i just threw some coins in and walked back and forth.

  19. Looks awesome. My girlfriend and I went from San Diego to have our Mickey adventure and found all but the BoSox and Royals as they are the ones that got vandelized. We also couldn't get to the Cubs at the Orange County Zoo because they had a huge fire in the park and closed it. Oh well. Hopefully they move them to Fan Fest so I can get them as well. I loved the adventure and enjoyed meeting a plethora of new baseball fans.

  20. i'm glad you had fun. i had a great time doing it also. i know what you mean about the zoo location. it's not the most accessible. just wish i'd gotten to the cubs one earlier since it was dark and scary walking back there to snap the pic. i had no idea you could complete so many activities in that area (i.e. horses, boats, etc) :-P

  21. My wife and I just stared this weekend and will get to all of themn except the two missing ones of course (I can't believe that happened). We did a lot of the Statue of Liberty ones in NY a couple years ago - most of which we could walk to. I'll be posting my story on my blog when we're done. This was a great read. Thanks for sharing.

  22. hi, james ~ you're welcome and enjoy! happy hunting. i was lucky to find a couple of girls (i.e. along with parking attendants, security personnel etc.) who were doing the same thing i was, and they were able to tell me where to look in the shopping centers and where to park, so it made the hunt a little easier.

statue of liberty mickeys?!?! oh, that sounds like fun! too bad i missed out.

  23. Did 16 today, and couldn't find the Red Sox. Sucks to hear about that one and the El Cap one. Stupid people!

    ReplyDelete
  24. david - earlier in the comments thread someone said that the red sox one was vandalized so it was sent back to the folks at disney. happy hunting!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Did the LA ones today. The El Cap one (Royals) is gone. Vandals tore the arms and legs off and tried to steal the bat. The Discovery Science (Boston) is also gone. Anyone know if the Orange County Zoo (Cubs) is out still?? Heard there was a fire and they removed it? Only 7 left...

    ReplyDelete
  26. The Cubs one is still there. The Red Sox one is inside the All Star Fanfest now, complete with a cast on his arm and an ice pack. Word on the street is he's recovering fine. The Royals though...R.I.P.

Just ran across your blog on the Mickeys while looking for something else All Star Game related. I did this trek as well, not for competion though. Just my Wife and I and some friends. It was a lot of fun and we took 2 days to finish too. The Boston and KC Mickeys were gone before our trek. But the Boston one showed up at the Fan Fest with bandages on! I have my pics on my Facebook page. It was a great time to be an Angels fan! Duane Gendreaux, Lake Elsinore, CA.

  35. I had heard that the Red Sox one was damaged. How anyone can damage a baseball Mickey is beyond me! What a fun adventure it was to find the statues... Definitely memories for a lifetime :)
